Amanda Thackray - Barrister and Mediator - Stephen Thackray Chambers | LinkedIn | Amanda is passionate about empowering individuals, couples and families to resolve their disputes in the most practical and positive way possible for all involved.

She believes taking the time to really get to know the needs and aspirations underlying people’s “legal positions” can help to avoid costly and stressful conflicts, and lead to better outcomes for individuals, children and families.

Amanda says:

“When I went through my own divorce, I was totally blindsided by the wide-ranging impacts it would have on my life. Here I was, a family law barrister, and I couldn’t even add up the numbers on the page of my property settlement papers. It took me almost 3 years to feel like myself again. I wish I had known then, the skills I now use with my own clients. 3 years might have been more like 3 months.”

Amanda has practised almost exclusively in Family Law for more than a decade.

She commenced her career at one of Australia’s leading family law firms, before working at Legal Aid where she appeared regularly in the Family Court, Children’s Court and Magistrates Court.

Amanda was honoured to serve as the Legal Associate to Chief Justice Diana Bryant of the Family Court of Australia and was invited to speak at the 2018 National Family Law Conference in Brisbane.

She has also served as an elected member of the Council of the Family Law Practitioners’ Association of WA and the Committee of Women Lawyers of Western Australia.

Amanda has been recognised as a recommended barrister in Doyle’s Guide. She accepts briefs in all areas of Family Law (including as Independent Children’s Lawyer) and in Care and Protection matters in the Children’s Court.

As a Nationally Accredited Mediator (NMAS), Amanda accepts engagements as a Family Mediator or Chairperson for Mediation-Style Conferences. She provides communication coaching and mediation for individuals or couples, whatever stage they are at in their relationship or separation.

Amanda is also an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
